Traffic Safety Supplies is a start up company that carries a variety of road safety materials for clients around the country. The company came to Oh See Design with the goal of selling their massive catalog of products online.

They also sought a unique identity that would set their company apart from their competitors. The identity had to be clean and well designed while still maintaining a masculine and gritty feel.

Visiting Galena

A few weeks back, I had the chance to visit Galena, IL. I’ve always enjoyed getting up to Galena. As an Illinois “Flatlander” getting to visit the rolling hills of the area is always an interesting change of scenery that is more in line with visiting southern Indiana. The rolling hills of the area ultimately give way to Galena, a small town that at one point during the early 1800′s was Illinois’s largest town.

Galena is interesting from a design perspective. Many of the shops feature hand created typography, which serves as an inspiring reminder to break out the sketch pad and resharpen those fundamental design skills that are locked away deep inside our brains.

Also, as an amateur photographer, Galena is a great reason to break out the camera and photograph some very interesting architecture.

Seconds till Launch

So I’ve redesigned the ol Oh!See Design site. And officially, I’d like to welcome you to the launch party. This is an undertaking that has been done for two reasons, (1) I wanted something that was a little more visually organized and could continue to grow with me and my business over the years and (2), I wanted a little more hands on experience with WordPress.

Obviously, the site isn’t running at full caliber right now, I am instead choosing to roll out portions as we go along. I’ve worked in WordPress before, but not to this extent. This was a full on undertaking, I purchased a template to understand how things work and tinkered with it.

This last phrase seems to be an idea lost on many people these days. I know people who will tear apart entire cars, or even build entire houses, but fear touching anything computer based with a ten-foot pole. This is a shame, because hands on learning can be the best type of learning, no matter what the medium.

Also, obviously, if you can’t tell, I’ve started a blog. Yes, just what the world needs, another self-absorbed designer spouting off his opinions on why everything he does is so much better than you and your mundane life. But actually I am going to keep it light. Mostly just ponderings, ramblings, insights and highlights of work that may not make it to the portfolio section.
